Over the past couple of years the momentum behind the EO movement has really picked up. I think people are really looking towards alternative healing methods and you’ve probably been invited to at least one party or event centered around essential oil education. I was talking to a friend of mine recently and she mentioned that she had a starter kit from Young Living but that she wasn’t really using it. She didn’t know which oils were best for what purposes etc. This was also the 3rd person who had told me the same thing this summer. So, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite uses for the oils that come in the Young Living starter kit.
The FDA has strict rules about how we can talk about uses of these oils so I’m listing some of my uses while still being (I hope) compliant.
Young Living is the brand that I use and I’m sure that DoTerra has very similar blends to what I’ll be breaking down but it helps give you an idea of where to start. The YL kit comes with the following oils:
- Lavender 5-ml
- Peppermint Vitality™ 5-ml
- Lemon Vitality™ 5-ml
- Copaiba Vitality™ 5-ml
- Frankincense 5-ml
- Thieves® Vitality™ 5-ml
- Purification® 5-ml
- R.C.™ 5-ml
- DiGize™ Vitality™ 5-ml
- PanAway® 5-ml
Each can be used individually or you can mix certain oils to diffuse or apply topically as needed. I love diffusing the oils. I love the way they smell and I have a diffuser in pretty much every room in my house. I especially love the smell of Lavender and diffuse it at bedtime. My daughter loves it as well. We also love to diffuse YL’s Gentle Baby which is a blend of oils.
Without a doubt Thieves is my favorite and most used oil. Here are 2 of my favorite uses for Thieves:
- Diffuse 2-3 drops of Thieves along with 2 drops of Purification and 2 drops of Lemon. I run this all the time in my kitchen. I love the smell and I think it helps eliminate some of those odors that can pop up from food.
- My favorite use is to make my own Thieves Spray. I have a few small spray bottles and I add about 15 drops to a small 2 oz. spray bottle ( you can buy them on Amazon or at whole foods). I add 1 T. of witch hazel and then fill it to the top with distilled water. I use this to freshen my hands and other surfaces. I carry it in my car and purse and use it on door handles, light switches, TV remotes etc.
You can also diffuse Thieves when you’re not feeling well I think the odor is really nice and it has a very clean smell.
I also love making roll-ons with EO’s that I use on my chest, neck etc. One of my favorite ones is a blend of Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint oil (about 10 drops of each) and then I fill the rest of the roller with fractionated coconut oil. I apply that around my temples and on my chest when my allergies are bothering me. The smell is great and I love breathing it in. I feel like it helps support a healthy respiratory system. I do the same with R.C. especially when I’m sick. It feels great on my chest when I am congested. You can also diffuse these to help as needed.
Another roll-on that I love to make is one with about 20 drops of Frankincense and 10 of Lavender and then fill the rest with carrier oil. I use this to help alleviate pain and redness from minor cuts, bruises and scratches on myself and family members.
Hopefully this helps give you some ideas on how to start using your kit. Young Living and DoTerra both have a wealth of information on their websites. YL also has an app that’s a reference guide for their oils and uses. I’ve also found a ton of helpful info on Pinterest and there’s a great Instagram account I follow that has great diffuser blend suggestions and recipes. If you’d like to know more about Young Living or signing up for a kit just let me know! Happy August!
